With this 1-hour webinar, the working group aims to provide an overview of and spark discussions on how research and practice (e.g. transdisciplinary research, relational thinking, transformative research, and transformative interventions) can help nurture and mobilise diverse values of nature.
Five speakers will reflect on a diverse range of studies from across the globe that tailor value-based research to the specificities of social-ecological contexts – with Paola Arias-Arévalo (Colombia), Miguel Cebrián-Piqueras (Germany), Mollie Chapman (Switzerland), Tarsh Thekaekara (India), Claudia Heindorf (Germany) and Ranjini Murali (Germany).
The webinar will offer insights, challenges and opportunities on how these types of experiences can support values-based transformation.
Guiding questions:
- How did your research help to mobilise diverse values of nature?
- Which modes of mobilising values were more prominent in the case studies (forming, enacting, including, shifting, or reflecting)?
- Which spheres of transformation were prioritised in the case studies (personal, community, practical, or political)?
- Which types of values were mobilised (e.g. specific, broad, knowledge systems and worldviews)?
More about the Values-Based Transformative Change for Human-Nature Relationships working group:
This working group explores how relational thinking and transdisciplinary research can integrate diverse values of nature to drive transformative change toward just and sustainable human-nature relationships. Recognising that biodiversity loss and climate crises stem from a values crisis, the group examines how marginalised or neglected values – such as biocultural diversity, customary rights, relational values, and traditional knowledge – can be surfaced and mobilised in decision-making and conservation efforts.

Global survey: Reflecting on values
Imagine a world built on the values you believe in – which ones would you choose to guide us forward? Help working group member Miguel Cebrián-Piqueras and the LEVER project team better understand values consciousness by defining what matters most, and how we can make it real.
