The Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) at Stellenbosch University is looking for a PhD candidate to examine how transdisciplinary SES capacities are taught, learned, supported and institutionalised across diverse contexts, particularly in postgraduate programmes.

Within the broader Society for Social-Ecological Systems (SocSES) structure, three groups provide an opportunity for understanding and advancing transdisciplinary education: the Institutional Hub comprising key institutional leaders in the SES field, a thematic working group on transdisciplinary teaching and learning, and a thematic working group on SES research methods. This PhD will draw particularly on the learning opportunities offered by these three groups. The project will focus particularly on transdisciplinary methods pedagogy: how students and early-career researchers learn to select, combine, adapt and justify methods for complex sustainability challenges, and how educators, supervisors, practitioners and institutions support this process in postgraduate programmes.
