The Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship to advance research on future scenarios of biodiversity intactness and their implications for sustainability and equity across sub-Saharan Africa.
This position builds on the BII4Africa project, which developed the first regionally grounded map of the Biodiversity Intactness Index (BII) for sub-Saharan Africa by drawing on the knowledge of over 200 African biodiversity experts. The next phase will apply this map to explore how different development and land-use scenarios could affect biodiversity and people β helping to inform more just and effective conservation and development policy.
The fellow will lead research on these scenarios and associated trade-offs, working closely with Dr Hayley Clements, Prof Reinette (Oonsie) Biggs, and Prof Alta de Vos, with opportunities to collaborate across CSTβs broader work on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and sustainability transformations.
Weβre looking for a candidate with strong quantitative skills (especially in spatial analysis and coding), a solid grounding in ecology or conservation science, and a demonstrated interest in applying research to inform real-world policy and planning.
